2012 WWA Wake Park World Series Schedule Released

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

From Lake Alfred, FL (April 26, 2012) – The WWA Wake Park World Series (WPWS) returns in 2012 for a 6th season (over 25 world class contests) of progressive wakeboarding action on the water and up in the air. Since 2007, the WPWS has taken over as the premier wake park contest series; it travels all over the World searching for the best cable park wakeboarders to take the championship. In 2012, the cable-pulled series will travel to six total stops within USA, France, Netherlands, and UAE. The USA will host three stops, each being part of the Monster Energy WWA Wake Park Triple Crown (WPTC), Sooruz Wake and Country in France, Protest Cable Call in the Netherlands, and last but not least, the 2012 WWA Wake Park World Championships hosted by Al Forsan International Sports Resort.

“The Wake Park World Series has truely become a world renowned wakeboard series; offering compeling cometition and a fun environment for the riders and spectators“ states WWA President, Shannon Starling “The greatest aspect of cable wakeboarding is how close the spectators are able to get to the riders. It allows an intimate setting to witness the intense riding.“

The absolute best wakeboarders will take their turn to impress the judges, spectators, and the World; riders such as Dominik Guehrs (GER), Freddy von Osten (GER), Tom Fooshee (USA), and Daniel Grant (TH) will use the features and corners of the cable to make each run as flawless and stylish as possible. With over $125,000 USD up for grabs, riders from over 20 countries will have their eyes set on championships ahead, but only time will tell who accumulates the most points and takes the overall championship.

Day Three at Wake Games in the Books, Pro Champions Crowned Tomorrow

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Orlando, Fla. — The world’s best wakeboarders descended upon the Orlando Watersports Complex for the third consecutive day to battle it out on massive wakes generated by Nautique’s new G23 boat in hopes of advancing to tomorrow’s final rounds of the 2012 Wake Games.

Showcasing highly technical rail tricks and larger-than-life aerials, riders in the men’s pro division set the standard today by performing some of the sport’s most difficult maneuvers. At the top of their game were the Soven brothers Bob and Phillip (Longwood, Fla.), who had stellar performances under the pressure of an MTV camera crew documenting his every move for the network’s upcoming series, Wake Brothers. Both Soven’s won their heats and will advance to tomorrow’s semi final round. Last year’s King of Wake defending champion, Harley Clifford, also won his heat today and will look to stay on top of the rankings with a Wake Games win tomorrow.

“There is some insane talent on tour this year,” commented Bob Soven. “Add that to the wake the G23 is pumping out and we are seeing some really tight heats. It was great to be out on the water today and I can’t wait to get back out there tomorrow.”

The feel good story of the Nautique Wake Games continues to be the comeback of Orlando-native Dallas Friday, who won her women’s pro heat today to advance to tomorrow’s finals. Friday, the most accomplished female athlete in the history of the sport, is returning to competition for the first time since 2010 after suffering series of grueling knee injuries.

In the Overton’s Junior Pro Men’s Series, Mike Dowdy looks to be the guy to beat. After putting in a near perfect performance in yesterday’s quarterfinals, Dowdy kept his momentum going with another heat winning performance in today’s semi finals. Dowdy will go for the division crown in tomorrow’s final against a stacked field of three other Junior Pro riders.

Adding to the one-of-a-kind format at the Nautique Wake Games, 10 preselected pro men wakeboarders served as team captains last night and hosted a draft, consisting of the 90 remaining athletes who advanced past the initial qualifying rounds. Based on today and tomorrow’s results, the athletes, which are separated by age, sex and skill level, will contribute points toward a team score based on their individual placement in that division. The team with the highest collective score will win the overall title. All 23 divisions will crown an individual winner as well. At the end of Day three, Team Austin Hair currently sits ahead of the nine other teams.

The Nautique Wake Games, presented by Rockstar Energy Drink will wrap up tomorrow April 14. Gates will open at 11 a.m. Tickets are available at the gate: $13 (adult); $5 (ages 6-12); free (ages 5 and under); or $7 (adult) if purchased online.

Following Saturday’s men’s pro final Nautique will sponsor two specialty events, a double-up contest and expression session. Both events will be broadcast live via webcast.

In addition to all the action on the water, on land the Nautique Wake Games features great food and music, athlete autograph signings, chances to win freebies, and shopping at the most cutting-edge stores offering water-sports equipment including boats, wakeboards, wakeskates, sunglasses and the latest in wakeboarding and surfing fashions.

KC Watersports is Expanding

Thursday, April 19th, 2012

Kansas City, Kansas-April 12, 2012/PRESS RELEASE

KC Watersports broke ground this month on a second lake. The lake will be approximately 2.5 acres and will be divided into two parts; one will host our new Sesitec 2.0 system and the other will be Boardworks Lake, an area available for Stand Up Paddleboards (SUP) and kayaks. The Pro Shop will have SUP’s from Boardworks for both rent and sale.

“I’m excited to see the dirt moving! This second lake will allow us to offer programs for younger kids, new riders to the sport, training and an area for SUP and kayaks. It allows for the entire family to come out and have something to do!” said manager Sarah Hollonbeck. “SUP’s are seeing rapid growth all over the nation. It is a great workout and a lot of fun! The two tower systems are great as well for riders of all ability levels.”

Not only will the lake be available during open riding times but you will be able to rent out either lake for private parties and company events. Check out our website or e-mail us with any questions. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date on what’s happening at KCW. There are more improvements coming to KCW for the 2012 season! Highlights Day One of Wake Games 2012

Thursday, April 12th, 2012

Orlando, Fla. — The competitive return of Orlando-native Dallas Friday, the most accomplished woman wakeboarder of all-time, and the unveiling of the massive-wake producing G23 boat from Nautique highlighted an action-packed day of competition from the world’s best wakeboarders during day one of the Nautique Wake Games at the Orlando Watersports Complex.

By posting a heat-winning 76.67 score today in her first competition since 2010, Friday advanced through the qualifying rounds of Wake Games and will compete in the main stages of the event on Friday and Saturday. “It’s been a long comeback from the knee surgeries and I am so thankful and grateful to be back on the water with everyone today. I thought this day was never going to come. I’m stoked to win my heat and can’t wait for the next round,” said Friday.

A loaded field of the world’s top professional men wakeboarders also made the most of the massive G23 wake during the first day at Wake Games. Leading the way with an assault of high-flying aerials and technical rail maneuvers was Raphael Derome (Canada), who posted the day’s high-score with an 80.00.

“The G23 definitely didn’t disappoint today, we were seeing riders from all the divisions go huge,” said Competition Director Chris Bischoff. “I think we can expect to see some really progressive riding during the upcoming rounds at Wake Games.”
